The College of St. Scholastica men’s soccer team has had much to celebrate in the last week having won its third Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season championship in the last four years and earning the program’s first invitation to the NCAA Tournament following Saturday’s conference tournament championship. The Saints have another set of accomplishments to add to that list now after five players earned UMAC First Team All-Conference accolades, two of whom were named the league’s offensive and defensive players of the year.

Add two more honorable mention award-winners and St. Scholastica led the pack of conference schools in the 2010 UMAC men’s soccer awards. The University of Minnesota, Morris had four first team selections followed by Bethany Lutheran College and Crown College who each had three. Northland College and Northwestern College were each represented by two All-UMAC First Team awards.

St. Scholastica’s Jermaine Dacres was chosen as the UMAC Offensive Player of the Year after leading the conference in goals, points, and points per game. Dacres, a senior, was elected to the all-conference first team in 2010 after being awarded honorable mention accolades the last two years. His teammate, defenseman Ian Linder, has been selected to the All-UMAC First Team in each of his four years while being named this season’s UMAC Defensive Player of the Year. Linder was a big help in the Saints finishing first in the league in goals allowed (five) and goals against average (0.35).

Bethany Lutheran College’s Johnny Luna was named the UMAC Rookie of the Year after the defender helped his Vikings team earn second place in the final conference standings, allowing them to host their first-ever UMAC Tournament game. Bethany Lutheran head coach Rob Pipal was chosen as the league’s coach of the year for the same reasons with the Vikings going 9-5-1 in UMAC play.
