North Central's Ty Liljander atop UMAC Men's Golf Postseason Awards
ST. PAUL -- North Central University’s Ty Liljander headlined a group of eight student-athletes to earn Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Men’s Golf All-Conference honors following Saturday’s final round at the league’s golf championship. Liljander, a freshman, finished the three-day tournament at even par following rounds of 73, 71 and 72 at Alexandria Golf Club.
Liljander was followed on the all-conference list by three of his teammates in Taylor Murphy, Ben Thorson and Taylor Alvarado. Other student-athletes to make the eight-man UMAC All-Conference list include the University of Minnesota, Morris’ Derek Dionne, Collin Anderson and Jack Pelletier and Northwestern College’s Daniel Horner.
North Central won the championship meet with a team score of 907, just 43 strokes over par in three days. The Rams bested second place Minnesota, Morris by 39 strokes and third place Northwestern by 75 to solidify their conference title. North Central head coach Todd Monger was named UMAC Coach of the Year following the tournament. With their victory, the Rams earned the UMAC’s first-ever NCAA automatic qualifier and will participate in the NCAA Championship in Greensboro, N.C. in May.
