NEW ULM, Minn. -- Martin Luther College is proud to announce that Rebecca Cox has accepted a position on the MLC faculty and will be the new head coach of the volleyball program in the fall of 2009. Cox will replace previous coach Lori Unke, who recently accepted a position in the admissions department.
Cox comes to MLC from Michigan Lutheran High School (MLHS) with 20 years of volleyball coaching experience. In 17 seasons coaching varsity volleyball, Cox had a record of 385-222-77. Her teams won nine conference championships and four district championships in those years.
“Becky will be able to challenge our student-athletes with knowledge,” Director of Athletics Jim Unke said, “and will also be able to continue the tradition that we have in women’s volleyball at MLC.”
Cox also has experience coaching other sports. She served as JV basketball coach for 12 years at MLHS and also coached one year of track. At MLC she will be assisting with the track program during the spring season.
Before coaching, Cox enjoyed a successful playing career. During her four-year career at Dr. Martin Luther College, Cox was part of three NLCAA National Championship teams. During her senior season, Cox was named NLCAA All-American and also Academic All-American.
Cox graduated from DMLC in May of 1989 and has gone on to do graduate work at Andrew’s University and Western Michigan University.
Along with her coaching duties, Cox will be teaching in the physical education division at MLC.
